“The world depicted in Evie Banks’s neon-hued paintings engages all our modes of perception. It’s easy to forget you’re looking at a two-dimensional plane, as alien greens, ultramarine, and blossom-pinks clash and bang. The viewer is taken into a vortex-like realm of hyper-perception, augmented by Banks’s unique visual language and use of a variety of materials. Inspired by the town of St Ives in Cornwall, she aims to translate the botanic and landscapes into evocative and vibrant scenes. Her unique process depends on a continual building up of layers, combining gestural brush strokes, graphic lines, and block colour, with disarming results. Drawing references from phenomenology and colour theory, each piece is a whittled concentration of pure energy.” – New Blood Art.
